About Us

Cave overlooking Contrary Creek.

Wheat Bradford with one of his 3 daughters, wife, and first grandson.

GBL is roughly 4 square miles of rocky land with mesquite, cedar, cactus, and dry creek beds.  Pioneer cattleman MM Bradford moved to Edwards County in 1879 and lived in a cave on the ranch while building his home on Contrary Creek.  Wheat Bradford started ranching the land as a teenager.

Looking Good!

With year round hunting and an annual average of less than 50 family, friend, and guest hunters, hunting pressure at GBL is light.

Our goal is to improve the quality and diversity of wildlife at the ranch.  Our seasonal packages and pricing are designed to help us manage the property, to maintain quality hunting now, and to improve hunting in the future.

There are too many variables to guarantee any specific results, but we will work with you to ensure you are happy with your decision to spend your time and money at GBL.  Please let us know if you are interested in hunting at GBL.

Hogs - both feral and Wild Boar - are good eating if taken young enough.

Our management activities encourage a variety of game to call GBL their home.  We hunt a variety of Hill Country wildlife including native and exotic game.  Natives in this area include Whitetail deer and Rio Grande turkey.  The exotics include Aoudads, Axis and Sika deer,  feral hogs and Russian Boars, Catalina goats, and a variety of sheep.

Mature Sika bucks are seen in many areas of GBL.
A variety of exotic animals at GBL is a Hill Country bonus.  Although Axis were introduced at the ranch in the 80's, other exotics free-range through the ranch or have established a permanent home.
Axis breed year round, so bucks are in hard horn randomly throughout the year.
Texas hunting is primarily conducted on private land.  Feeders are used to bring game into sight and hunters sit in stands. This relatively safe, low-profile approach to hunting is the most common method of hunting used at GBL.
